Calling All Surrey Primary Schools

Be a Recycling Hero at Home – Wastebuster Homework Competition 2018

Open to all state funded primary schools in Surrey

We want to make sure that everyone knows what types of plastic can be recycled at home.

Every day over 35.8 million plastic bottles are used in the UK, but a huge 44.5% of them are not recycled – that’s 16 million plastic bottles every single day! Using recycled plastics uses 75% less energy, than what is required for producing new plastic products from scratch. We can make a BIG difference just by recycling every plastic bottle we use.

This year’s Wastebuster Homework Competition is all about plastic recycling and how to recycle at home.

Taking part is easy:

  1. Download and copy the homework activity sheet for every pupil to take home.
  2. Watch Busta’s video on plastic recycling and use the assembly presentation, to explain to pupils why they should recycle plastic and how the competition works.
  3. At home, pupils need to identify plastic items that can be recycled and complete the homework sheet. Then bring it back to school.
  4. To enter the competition, you just need to tell us how many homework sheets have been completed and the winning school will receive £500

We’ve also got a special mission for families!

If pupils decorate and display the plastic recycling checklist from their homework sheet somewhere at home and send us a photo – they could win an iPad!

You have until the 25th May 2018 to send us your homework sheet information and family photos

We’re already receiving entries from participating schools – so be a Recycling Hero and get started today!
