Sock Monster Puppetry
The children have met Busta and his friends and now they can make some friends of their own!
Wastebuster puppetry workshops provide a fun and engaging experience for children of all ages to explore and create exciting characters and explore environmental stories of their own, whilst gaining craft skills and team working abilities.
The workshops have been developed to enhance literacy, Art and Design, ICT, PSHE and Citizenship by creating an environment for learning by doing, observing and reflecting at a content level relevant to their needs, interests and learning styles. The puppets can be used as powerful tools of communication through storytelling, creating an imaginative learning experience.
Workshops will explore an environmental theme as a basis for the puppet and set design, which can also be tailored to your individual needs.
The Wastebuster puppetry team provides workshops for young people of all abilities and levels. Every workshop is tailored to a group’s particular needs and enables them to express creative ideas on the environment through puppet making and storytelling.
The workshops are designed to link to curriculum targets in Literacy, PSHE and Citizenship for all Key Stages. Tailored projects exploring curriculum targets can be delivered in collaboration with teaching staff.
The most suitable group size is 10-30 people.
The class/ group must include at least one adult staff member. It is always very useful to have additional teaching assistants, but they will be required for younger or less able young people.
Wastebuster Puppet Workshops are for all ages and are available to schools, community and special needs groups.
It is also possible to book courses for schools, animation sessions, holiday workshops, creative days for groups, adult workshops or Inset days to engage in a fun team building experience.
Workshop Guidance
- All Wastebuster puppets and sets are made from recovered/ recycled materials provided by Wastebuster. Teacher liaison will determine whether it is suitable for pupils to bring certain waste materials from home, as this introduces a dialogue concerning recycling and reuse with children's parents and invariably unearths an amazing assortment of raw materials e.g. wool, buttons, cotton reels, egg boxes, rubber bands, milk bottle tops.
- Wastebuster puppet/ set designs are simple, with template designs to enable people of any ability to quickly produce very effective puppets that are fun and easy to manipulate.
- Costs include the materials and resources required, although the hosting school/ group should provide basic equipment such as paper, pencils, scissors, colouring pens, table covers and newspaper.
