Waste and recycling collection

Some local councils in Surrey provide waste and recycling collections to schools. Links to each council’s recycling webpages can be found via the Surrey Environment Partnership website.

Schools in Surrey are also free to procure contracts with private waste and recycling contractors. Under a framework agreement tendered by Surrey County Council Veolia can offer all schools in Surrey competitive rates for the collection of general waste, food, mixed recycling and glass as well as free advice on improving recycling in schools and keeping costs down. Schools in Surrey are free to procure contracts with private organisations to collect confidential waste. Under a framework agreement tendered by Surrey County Council Shred Station an offer a variety of options for the disposal of your confidential waste including collections and off-site and on-site shredding. Schools that appoint an organisation to collect their waste have a duty of care to ensure that they are an authorised waste carrier with an up to date and valid upper tier registration. Find out more about duty of care by reading the Government’s Waste Duty of Care Code of Practice.

Free compost bins for Surrey schools

Surrey Environment Partnership funds a free 330 litre compost bin per school in Surrey. Bins are 1000m (H) X 800 mm (diameter). To apply for one email affiliates@straight.co.uk with the email subject of ‘Surrey school free compost bin offer’. Please include your school address in the email and a contact name.
