Pupils across Cheshire West and Chester are discovering the superpowers of recycling in the brand-new Recycle it Right Assembly and putting their knowledge to the test in the fast-paced Recycling Relay challenge!
The interactive assembly, created by Wastebuster, encourages children to think about the four R's – Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle – and demonstrates how small everyday actions can make a significant difference to the planet. Children learn why recycling matters and discover exactly what can be placed in their red, blue, and brown bins at home, as well as why putting the wrong items in the bins can prevent them from being recycled.
"Recycling is a superpower we all have – to help the planet, save energy, and protect animals. And it all starts with putting the right thing in the right bin!" says Gareth Kelly, Community Engagement Coordinator for the Cheshire West and Chester Schools Waste Action Programme
The Recycling Relay
The Recycling Relay is a high-energy, two-minute challenge that turns pupils into eco-heroes. Armed with a mix of recyclable and non-recyclable items, two teams race against the clock to decide whether each object belongs in the recycling bin or the rubbish bin. The rest of the team cheers them on, shouting "Recycle!" or "Bin!" to guide their runners to victory.
The atmosphere is electric – laughter, shouting and cheering fill the hall as the children race to sort as many items as possible before the timer runs out. At the end, the winning team is crowned, but everyone leaves with a new mission: to recycle it right at home and at school.
Fun with a serious message
While the Recycling Relay is fast, fun and a little bit competitive, it also delivers an important message. Putting the wrong things in the recycling bin can cause huge problems, even contaminating whole lorry loads of recycling. By learning the rules in an exciting and memorable way, children are more likely to take that knowledge home and inspire their families to recycle correctly, too.
Inspiring the next generation of wastebusters
Schools across Cheshire West and Chester are encouraged to bring the Recycle it Right Assembly and Recycling Relay to their pupils, helping to create a generation of wastebusters who are ready to protect the planet – one recycled bottle, can and box at a time.
