Food Waste Recycling Poster Competition Guidance

This poster competition guidance provides a structured, engaging way for primary schools to reinforce learning about food waste recycling through creativity and pupil voice. Pupils are challenged to design an eye-catching poster that clearly communicates what can and cannot go in food waste bins and why recycling food waste is important.
The resource supports teachers to run the competition within school, including guidance on participation, judging criteria and submission to a wider West Sussex county-wide competition. Pupils can work individually, in pairs or as part of an eco-team, with schools selecting a winning entry to display and submit externally.
By focusing on clarity, accuracy, impact and creativity, the competition helps pupils translate their knowledge into real-world communication that can influence behaviour in dining halls, classrooms and at home. It also provides recognition opportunities through certificates and wider celebration of pupil work.
