This ready-to-use primary assembly introduces pupils to food waste recycling in West Sussex, helping them understand why reducing and recycling food waste matters and how they can take action at home. The resource includes a fully designed presentation alongside detailed presenter’s notes, enabling confident delivery with minimal preparation.
Through a mix of discussion, quizzes and visual prompts, pupils explore what food waste is, which foods are commonly wasted, and how the new collection system works. The assembly also explains what happens to food waste after collection, including how it is turned into renewable energy and fertiliser through anaerobic digestion.
Interactive elements such as “yes or no” sorting activities and quick quizzes help reinforce learning, while embedded video prompts bring the recycling process to life. The session concludes by encouraging pupils to become “Food Waste Champions”, supporting behaviour change both in school and at home.
