Message from Wastebuster
For many children in today’s society, environmental degradation and the carbon footprint are still perceived as abstract concepts, bearing very little relation to real life.
To move away from a high-energy use, wasteful economic model to one that conserves energy and minimises waste will require an education that can convince, inspire and empower a generation of children to change.
Wastebuster help children plan, implement, evaluate and monitor progress towards creating sustainable schools, homes and communities. We aim to provide clear and practical guidance on how schools might embed the principles of sustainable development into the heart of school life.
Wastebuster is designed to enable children to:
- Understand that living things, Earth’s resources and the environment need protection.
- Understand how they can affect the environment.
- Understand how decisions about the environment affect the future quality of people’s lives.
- Understand the structure of industrialised society and its impact on the environment.
- Recognise relevant issue caused by an environmental change and attempts to manage the environment sustainably.
- Learn to debate, discuss and share ideas and concerns surrounding environmental issues.
- Take responsibility for their behaviour and the consequences of their actions.
- Appreciate that caring for the planet and sustainable living is a lifestyle choice.
But perhaps most importantly, we hope to capture the imagination of a generation of children and inspire them to look after a planet that will one day be theirs.
Wastebuster have had help from lots of wonderful people along the way. We would like to say a special thanks to our friends.
